Government officials from Eswatini are attending the SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) Conference and Summit currently underway in Harare, Zimbabwe. The event, which runs from 19 to 23 May 2025, marks 25 years of collaborative conservation efforts across the Southern African region.
The summit aims to deepen political will and drive new investment into the TFCAs programme, which is central to sustainable development, tourism, and rural livelihoods. It has attracted senior government representatives, development partners, and private sector players from across the SADC region.
Among the Eswatini delegation are Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Khangeziwe Mabuza; Lubombo TFCA Coordinator Mandla Makhanya from the Eswatini National Trust Commission; Tourism Information Officer Zotheni Mabusela; Director in the SADC Regional Integration Coordination Unit under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, Thobile Mavuso; and SADC Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Bagcinele Maphanga.
Key focus areas of the summit include pushing for new commitments from Heads of State and international partners to expand the TFCA network, creating investment opportunities within conservation zones, and promoting air and land access to protected areas.
Delegates are also exploring how multi-sector collaboration and public-private partnerships can support TFCA development and turn these shared landscapes into thriving economic zones for rural communities.
