HARARE – Zimbabwe is seeking to expand its religious tourism sector as part of efforts to attract international visitors, create jobs and generate foreign currency in support of the country’s Vision 2030 development agenda.
The Rainbow Ministries’ 10th International Evangelism College of Bishops and Ministers (IECOBM) Convention, held from 6 to 9 October 2026 in Warren Park, Harare, brought together local and international visitors under the theme “Together We Shine Brighter.”
According to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), the gathering attracted participants from Guyana, the United States, the United Kingdom and several African countries, providing an opportunity to promote Zimbabwe as a destination for faith based travel.
Religious tourism is increasingly being positioned as part of Zimbabwe’s broader tourism offering, connecting spiritual gatherings with the country’s cultural heritage and creating opportunities for businesses and communities to benefit from visitor spending.
Addressing delegates at the convention’s official installation ceremony and gala dinner, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi welcomed participants and commended Rainbow Ministries for selecting Zimbabwe to host the international gathering.
Rwodzi pointed to the country’s peace and security as important considerations for visitors attending international religious events.
She also spoke about the role religious tourism could play in advancing heritage based tourism and supporting economic development, including opportunities to encourage visitors to explore Zimbabwe beyond their attendance at faith based gatherings.
