HARARE, Zimbabwe : Nearly 16 Zimbabwean DJs and producers are joining forces on Inner Visions, an Afro House compilation designed to showcase the country’s electronic music talent and introduce its diverse sounds to audiences across Africa and beyond.
The project, initiated and curated by South Africa based Zimbabwean DJ and producer Dr Feel, brings together established artists and emerging performers in a collection of tracks exploring rhythm, cultural identity, personal experiences and shared musical heritage.
The compilation features DJ Stavo, Nitefreak, Dr. Chaii, Ryan Synth, MIčI, Reverb, TAPIWA, Simbai, Tashinga, Shona (SA), PA NGU, Afro Wav, Takue SBT, Josh Major, Daphfinee and Taarof Adder, among other contributors.
Rather than limiting the project to one generation or a particular interpretation of Afro House, Inner Visions draws on the different approaches and creative influences shaping Zimbabwe’s growing electronic music community.
At the heart of the compilation is the belief that understanding one’s roots can provide a foundation for connecting with the wider world. Through music, the artists explore how rhythm can communicate identity, memory and lived experiences across geographical and cultural boundaries.
“Inner Visions is about looking inward before you look outward. This is Zimbabwean Afro House, told by the people making it right now, for anyone in the world who wants to listen,” says Dr Feel.
The curator brings considerable international experience to the initiative. The Zimbabwean DJ and producer has built a career spanning Afro House and Tech House, releasing more than 200 singles and over 10 extended plays, alongside the albums Made in Africa and Indalo.
His work has been associated with international labels and platforms including Defected, Sondela, Deep Root Tribe, Nervous and Aluku. His music has also received support from prominent artists such as Black Coffee, Keinemusik, Shimza, Themba and Djeff.
Dr Feel’s performance history includes appearances at the Sondela Summer Party and Badbox & Friends in London, Cé La Vi in Dubai and the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in the Netherlands. He has also performed in Germany, France, Kenya, Cyprus, Zambia and Johannesburg, South Africa.
However, the significance of Inner Visions extends beyond the achievements of its curator. By bringing together artists at different stages of their careers, the compilation offers a shared platform for Zimbabwean producers to reach new listeners and participate more visibly in the international Afro House movement.
Among the contributors are internationally active producers such as Nitefreak and Dr. Chaii, alongside established and emerging musicians developing distinctive sounds within the genre.
The initiative comes as African electronic music continues to attract audiences beyond the continent, creating opportunities for producers to connect with international labels, performance venues and listeners. For Zimbabwean artists, a collective project such as Inner Visions provides an opportunity to present the country’s musical identity through a range of creative voices rather than relying on individual success stories.
“Inner Visions is bigger than any one of us. It’s a record of where Zimbabwean Afro House stands right now, made by the people building it. I wanted the world to hear Zimbabwe the way I hear it,” says Dr Feel.
The compilation is scheduled for release in November 2026 through Mansa Musa, a South African house music label. The release is expected to form part of broader efforts to expand the international reach of Zimbabwean Afro House and create greater recognition for the artists contributing to its development.
JBross Media Group is overseeing communications and media activities for the project, with Tendai Joe serving as its public relations and communications manager.
Inner Visions is a Zimbabwean Afro House compilation curated by Dr Feel, bringing together nearly 16 DJs, producers and artists in a collaborative project exploring rhythm, identity and reflection while providing a platform for Zimbabwean music to reach audiences beyond the country’s borders.
