ALEXANDRA, SOUTH AFRICA – The Alexander Magistrate’s Court has postponed the centralisation of seven dockets involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and co-accused, as Matlala is yet to appear for his bail application in the attempted murder case of his former girlfriend Tebogo Thobejane.
Matlala and four others, including his wife Tsakane Matlala, made a brief court appearance on Tuesday. Other accused include Musa Kekana, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, and, according to the charge sheet, Matlala’s daughter Nthabiseng Nzama. They face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. The matter was adjourned to October 7 for centralisation.
Matlala is scheduled to appear on September 2 for his bail application in Thobejane’s case. Magistrate Syta Prinsloo ruled that he will remain in custody until then.
Prosecutor Elize Le Roux said the centralisation process could take about six weeks. She explained that approval is required first from the Director of Public Prosecutions in Pretoria, and then from the national office, before the cases can be heard in one jurisdiction.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane added that the state will oppose bail ahead of centralisation. The seven dockets come from different jurisdictions, including Pretoria, Sandton, and Orlando. Once centralised, they are expected to be heard in the Gauteng High Court Division in Johannesburg.
Of the accused, only Matlala’s wife and daughter are out on bail. The remaining suspects remain in custody.
