Manzini – The African Women’s Peace and Development Foundation (AWPDF) Eswatini Chapter will join the rest of the world in commemorating International Day of Peace 2025 with a half-day dialogue at the American Spaces Manzini Library on Tuesday, 30 September.
International Day of Peace, observed annually on 21 September, was declared by the United Nations as a moment for people and nations to reflect, act, and recommit to building a world free of violence and inequality. The 2025 global theme is “Act Now for a Peaceful World.” In Eswatini, AWPDF has adopted a local theme, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace and Inclusion,” reflecting the belief that every member of society has a role to play in promoting peace and non-violence.
AWPDF Acting Chairperson Nomsa Dlamini-Gule said the event will convene a cross-section of participants, including youth and the elderly, to foster intergenerational dialogue on sustaining peace within families. Organisers believe families are the starting point for building stronger communities, nations and, ultimately, global peace.
The event’s objectives are to foster dialogue and cooperation across families, workplaces, communities and the continent; promote human rights and gender equality with a focus on women’s participation in peacebuilding; share conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding strategies relevant to Eswatini and beyond; and encourage participants to make personal and collective commitments through pledges and the signing of a Peace Declaration.
Expected outcomes include a shared understanding of peace as inclusive and action-oriented, stronger recognition of women’s voices in peace and security, dissemination of practical conflict resolution strategies, and the strengthening of partnerships among stakeholders working for peace in Eswatini and internationally.
The dialogue will run from 9 am to 1 pm and is part of AWPDF’s flagship programmes that aim to unite stakeholders under the conviction that collective action can bring meaningful change.
