Mbabane – Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla has concluded discussions on the Disaster Risk Management Bill of 2024 during a Senate Portfolio Committee session held at the Hilton Hotel in Mbabane.
The Bill, which has already passed the House of Assembly, seeks to overhaul Eswatini’s approach to disasters by establishing an integrated and coordinated system focused on prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Once enacted, the legislation will introduce the National Disaster Risk Management Fund, designed to improve access to emergency resources and support proactive planning. Funding for the initiative will come from government allocations and strategic partners.
The Bill aims to replace the Disaster Management Act of 2006 and proposes a stronger institutional framework that will improve coordination across all regions and ensure that communities are equipped to manage risks and respond to emergencies effectively.
