MBABANE – Students from Ikhwezi High School were given a rare peek into Eswatini’s economic affairs during a visit to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, where they received a detailed briefing from the Macroeconomic Analysis and Research Unit.

The session, held at the ministry’s offices, aimed to expose learners to key aspects of the national economy, linking classroom theory to real-world dynamics.

Officials from the unit walked the pupils through a range of topics, including macroeconomic objectives, the circular flow of income, government’s role in economic development, and the use of monetary policy to maintain stability. They also touched on current issues such as inflation trends in Eswatini, unemployment, and climate change.

The presentation placed Eswatini’s economy in both regional and global context, giving students a broader perspective on the forces that shape national growth.

Pupils were encouraged to ask questions and interact with facilitators, with many demonstrating a strong grasp of the material and expressing interest in economic development and policy-making.
