Denmark participated in the first Regional Climate and Security conference in Hargeisa, Somaliland, last week. The conference was hosted by the Academy for Peace and Development (APD) and featured discussions on the challenges of both security and sustainable development in the region.

Climate change is already leading to food insecurity, scarcity of resources, and displacement in the Horn of Africa. These impacts are amplifying existing conflicts and complicating security issues in the region.

The conference provided a platform for participants to discuss potential solutions to these challenges, such as realizing the potential of Somaliland’s wind and solar power. Denmark will use the lessons from the conference to inform its forthcoming five-year strategy for Somalia and Somaliland.
