MBABANE – The World Food Programme (WFP) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) have signed a new agreement aimed at addressing food insecurity and strengthening disaster preparedness in Eswatini.
The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, 3 July 2025, at the NDMA headquarters in Mbabane, with WFP Head of Office Ashrafu Amin and NDMA CEO Victor Lusekwane Mahlalela representing their respective organisations.
The partnership comes at a time when over 300,000 people—roughly a quarter of the country’s population—are facing acute food insecurity, according to figures from the Eswatini Vulnerability Assessment Committee. Years of erratic weather, persistent drought, and rising food prices have worsened the situation, leaving thousands of households struggling to meet basic nutritional needs.
