Mbabane – The Premier League of Eswatini has confirmed the promotion and relegation criteria that will govern the current 2025/26 season, warning that the rules will be applied strictly and without deviation.
The league issued a press release this week laying out the framework drawn from Clause 9 of its Master Rules and Regulations, which covers automatic relegation, automatic promotion and playoff arrangements across both the Premier Division and the National First Division.
Under the rules, the three clubs finishing at the bottom of the Premier Division log table, in positions 14, 15 and 16, will be automatically relegated to the National First Division at the end of the season. The club finishing 13th will also go down but will be given a lifeline through the playoffs.
That 13th-placed club will contest a promotional playoff against the clubs finishing third, fourth and fifth in the National First Division, with the top two sides from the playoff standings earning a place in the Premier Division for next season.
At the top end of the National First Division, the clubs finishing first and second will earn automatic promotion to the Premier Division without needing to go through the playoffs.
Further down the pyramid, the four clubs finishing at the bottom of the National First Division will be relegated to their respective EFA Regional Super Leagues. In the opposite direction, the four EFA Regional Super League champions will earn promotion into the National First Division.
The Premier League of Eswatini said the rules would be implemented strictly and without deviation.
