MBABANE, Eswatini, September 17, 2026 Eswatini is mourning the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Lindiwe, the Minister of Home Affairs, who died following a short illness while receiving medical care.
Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini announced her death in a Government statement issued on Thursday, extending condolences on behalf of His Majesty’s Government to His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Royal Family, Princess Lindiwe’s family and relatives, her colleagues and all those who knew and worked alongside her.
The Government said Princess Lindiwe served the Crown and the Kingdom with dignity, devotion and a strong sense of duty. She had served as Minister of Home Affairs since her appointment in 2018, remaining in the portfolio for eight years.
According to the Government statement, Princess Lindiwe carried out the responsibilities of her office with integrity and compassion and remained committed to the welfare of the people of Eswatini.
Her tenure at the Ministry of Home Affairs covered key areas of national administration, including immigration, citizenship, civil registration and refugee affairs.
The Government also remembered Princess Lindiwe for her Christian faith and spiritual leadership. She was affectionately known as Umkhokheli and was described as someone who provided spiritual guidance, encouragement and leadership to many people.
The statement said her kindness, humility and strength of character had touched the lives of those around her.
“The Kingdom has lost a person of humility and dignity, the Cabinet a valued and respected colleague, the Church a spiritual leader, and the Nation a devoted and faithful servant,” Prime Minister Dlamini said.
Princess Lindiwe was the daughter of the late King Sobhuza II. Before entering Cabinet, she worked in administration and business and was involved in faith based activities. Government records also state that she served as a member of Liqoqo, a traditional advisory structure, after being appointed by King Mswati III in 2008. She entered Parliament and was appointed Minister of Home Affairs in 2018.
Her public duties continued into 2026. In April, she took part in events marking King Mswati III’s 58th birthday and 40 years on the throne, while in May she represented Eswatini in international engagements concerning migration.
The Government said her contribution to the Kingdom would be remembered with gratitude and that her memory would remain cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
It said further information concerning the funeral and related arrangements would be communicated in due course.
“May the soul of Her Royal Highness Princess Lindiwe rest in eternal peace,” Dlamini said.
