Following the session, Ali and other IGAD foreign ministers paid a courtesy visit to Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh at the Presidential Palace in Djibouti.

The delegation also visited the site of IGAD’s new headquarters currently under construction in Djibouti. The project is expected to serve as part of efforts to strengthen the organisation’s institutional capacity and effectiveness.

Somalia said it attaches significant importance to an IGAD that is strong, united and capable of contributing to peace, security, stability and regional cooperation.

The meeting comes as IGAD continues to play a central role in addressing political, security and humanitarian challenges affecting the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region.
