Two form one students from Halisupi Secondary School spent the whole day parading in their underwear after their trousers were confiscated by one of the senior teachers for breaking the seasonal dress code.

It is alleged that a senior teacher Aleck Ndlovu humiliated the two pupils in front of other school pupils after he ordered them to remove their trousers and confiscated them.
He went on the keep them in his office whilst the pupils had to spend the day parading their undergarments until they knocked off school.

The incident occurred last Monday at the school which is under Chief Marupi.
The two boys who could not be named because they are juveniles come from Zamanyoni village in Mlambapheli under the same chief.

They were being punished for wearing trousers instead of shorts which is the school’s dress code in summer. Councillor for Ward 19, Thompson Makhalima in whose jurisdiction the school falls under, confirmed the incident to The Mirror in an interview and said the two juveniles exhibited signs of emotional distress.

“I received the complaint last week. What happened to these children is inhuman and I believe the teacher had to find another way of punishing the pupils. As a community we cannot tolerate that and we are calling upon the District Education Officer to make a follow up and solve this problem because there has been a similar case before at the same school,” said Makhalima.

One of the students’ parent reported the matter to Tuli Police Station but however, was not satisfied with the Police’s response and approached Clr Makhalima for assistance.
Efforts to get a comment from the concerned teacher were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable.

The school’s deputy head Tears Mazwi refused to be drawn into commenting on the matter
“I know what you expect to hear and I am not in a position to respond to this actually l don’t want to comment on that,” he said.
