Two suspected witches were arrested early today when their “home made glider” rusero developed a technical fault and they were left stranded and started.

roaming outside a house in Budiriro suburb. The two who dwell from Nembudziya in Gokwe north, were apparently mesmerised by the suburb of Budiriro. Folktale has it on record that witches use flying baskets and or hyena for transportation.

It would be logical to assume the baskets or gliders are for long distance “explorations”, whilst hyenas presumably are for short “expeditions”. We talked to one Madzibaba who said “gliders often develop technical faults if the “pilot” erroneously navigates over a no “flyzone”.

The no flyzone would probably be the territory of either a powerful prophet or sangoma. It then becomes a game of powers, and consequently the unfortunate “airliner crashed”.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tadius Chibanda confirmed the bizarre incident. He said the two were from Gokwe-Nembudziya communal area. “We have arrested two suspected witches this morning at a house along Gata Street in Budiriro 2,” Insp Chibanda said.

“We have since taken them to Mbare Magistrates Court on charges of contravening Section 98 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for engaging in practices commonly associated with witchcraft.”

Police Inspector Chibanda said the two were discovered by schoolchildren preparing to go to school around 5am.

The two were stark naked and each had a reed basket. In one of the baskets there was a live brown owl and some skeletons of an animal that looked like a baboon while the other had some snails and unknown orange substance in a 500mls bottle.
